In Belgium, the fines for speeding are divided into four degrees. The exact amounts are multiplied by the \u201csurcharges (opdeciemen)\u201d (increase factor x8), making the final amounts substantially higher than the basic fines in the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The four degrees and their penalties (after surcharges)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>First degree (1 to 10 km\/h too fast):<\/strong> Fine from \u20ac160 to \u20ac400. No driving ban. Immediate collection possible.<\/li><li><strong>Second degree (11 to 20 km\/h too fast):<\/strong> Fine from \u20ac400 to \u20ac2,000. Optional driving ban from 8 days to 5 years.<\/li><li><strong>Third degree (21 to 30 km\/h speeding):<\/strong> Fine from \u20ac800 to \u20ac4,000. Optional driving ban; mandatory for repeat offenders.<\/li><li><strong>Fourth degree (more than 30 km\/h speeding):<\/strong> Fine of \u20ac1,600 to \u20ac8,000. Mandatory driving ban of at least 8 days.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Notice:<\/strong> in case of recidivism within three years, the minimum sentences are doubled and the disqualification from driving can be pronounced, which requires you to pass medical, psychological, theoretical and practical exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Amicable settlement or subpoena?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a speeding ticket, you usually receive either a proposal for a proposal for immediate collection, or an out-of-court settlement offer from the public prosecutor, or a summons to appear before the police court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Amicable settlement payment:<\/strong> you implicitly acknowledge the facts, the prosecution lapses.
