Who is Mr Mohamed Asfour?

Mohamed Asfour obtained his master’s degree in law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and is registered with the Brussels Bar (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten, the Dutch-speaking Bar). He founded Novex Advocaten at Avenue Louise 379, 1050 Brussels, from where he assists clients in Dutch, French, English and Arabic. In Brussels, this multilingualism is no mere detail: the language of the proceedings determines which court you appear before, and Mr Asfour pleads with equal ease before the Dutch-speaking and the French-speaking courts.

Areas of law

The core of the practice is road traffic law: drink and drug driving, speeding, hit-and-run, driving bans and reinstatement exams, driving without insurance or without a licence, and compensation for road accident victims. He also handles cases in criminal law (police interviews, pre-trial detention, the criminal court), family law (divorce, parental authority, residence arrangements, maintenance contributions), tenancy and property law (rental disputes before the justice of the peace, commercial leases, hidden defects, neighbour nuisance, construction disputes), business law and debt recovery (contracts, terms and conditions, bankruptcy, unpaid invoices, seizures) and employment law.

The courts he appears before

Mr Asfour regularly pleads before the police courts of Brussels, Halle, Vilvoorde, Leuven and Aalst, as well as before the justices of the peace, the family court, the criminal court and the enterprise court. He also acts as a substitute for fellow lawyers, which gives him good insight into the practice of the various courts.

Working method

You have a single point of contact: Mr Asfour handles your case himself, from the first meeting to the hearing. He responds quickly, because many cases are subject to short time limits: fifteen days to lodge an opposition against a judgment by default, thirty days to appeal, and every day counts when a driving licence has been withdrawn with immediate effect. Before starting, he makes clear and transparent arrangements about his fees and checks whether your legal expenses insurance covers the costs. His approach is pragmatic: first read the whole file, then determine what is achievable and, where possible, seek an amicable settlement before any court proceedings.
